Big Bash League 2026-27 squads: every confirmed player so far
5 players are confirmed across the eight Big Bash League 2026-27 squads. Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars lead with 14 players each, while Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder have 10. With every club allowed an 18-player primary roster, 49 places remain available before BBL|16 begins.

The 95 confirmed players fill about 66 per cent of the league’s 144 available primary-roster positions. The Stars are the only club to have filled all three overseas places. Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades have not yet announced an overseas signing.
Brisbane Heat have re-signed Usman Khawaja, but the club has not confirmed whether he will continue as captain. Sydney Sixers also need a new captain following the retirement of Moises Henriques.
How do BBL|16 squad and overseas-player rules work?
Every BBL club can register up to 18 players on its primary list for the 2026-27 season.
- A primary squad can contain no more than three overseas players.
- Clubs are not required to sign a minimum number of overseas players.
- The overseas player draft has been removed for BBL|16.
- Australian and overseas players can now negotiate directly with clubs.
- Replacement players may be added when contracted players become unavailable.
- Being uncontracted does not prevent a player from signing before the season.
The return to direct signings is a major change from recent seasons. It also explains why several clubs still have overseas positions available despite the contracting period being open.
Adelaide Strikers squad for BBL|16
Adelaide have 12 confirmed players and six positions available. Ben Stokes and Mark Chapman occupy two of the club’s three overseas places, giving the Strikers a new international core alongside captain Matt Short and wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

What has changed since BBL|15?
The removal of the overseas draft has changed how teams build their lists. Clubs can approach international players directly, and no club is required to carry a minimum number of overseas players.
