When does the Big Bash League 2026-27 start?
BBL|16 starts on Saturday, 12 December 2026. Melbourne Renegades face defending champions Perth Scorchers at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The season opener begins at:

- 2:40 PM IST
- 2:10 PM PKT
This will be the first Big Bash League match played outside Australia. Melbourne Renegades are the designated home team, while Perth Scorchers enter the season after winning their sixth men’s BBL title.
The first match in Australia is Brisbane Heat versus Sydney Sixers at the Gabba on Tuesday, 15 December. It starts at 7:15 PM AEDT, 1:45 PM IST and 1:15 PM PKT.

How the time columns work
AEDT is the source time used in Cricket Australia’s published BBL|16 schedule. IST is 5 hours 30 minutes behind AEDT, while PKT is 6 hours behind AEDT. For example, a match starting at 7:15 PM AEDT begins at 1:45 PM IST and 1:15 PM PKT.
AEDT is a reference time and may differ from the local clock at the venue. This matters for matches in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Chennai because those locations do not all use AEDT. Using one reference time keeps every fixture consistent, while the IST and PKT columns give fans in India and Pakistan a direct conversion.
Finals start times have not been announced. They remain marked TBC instead of being estimated.
Which dates stand out in the BBL|16 schedule?
Historic Chennai opener
Melbourne Renegades play Perth Scorchers at MA Chidambaram Stadium on 12 December. It is the only India-based fixture on the published regular-season schedule and the first BBL match staged outside Australia.
First match in Australia
Brisbane Heat host Sydney Sixers at the Gabba on 15 December, three days after the Chennai opener. This begins the Australian part of the competition.
Boxing Day double-header
Sydney Sixers play Brisbane Heat at the SCG on 26 December at 6:05 PM AEDT. Perth Scorchers then host Melbourne Stars at Optus Stadium at 9:15 PM AEDT.
New Year’s Eve in Adelaide
Adelaide Strikers host Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval on 31 December. The New Year’s Eve match starts at 7:15 PM AEDT, equal to 1:45 PM IST and 1:15 PM PKT.
Six double-header dates

Christmas Eve and derby fixtures
Melbourne Renegades host Hobart Hurricanes at Junction Oval on 24 December, bringing a Christmas Eve fixture back to the BBL schedule.
Both Melbourne derbies will be played at the MCG. Melbourne Stars host Melbourne Renegades on 4 January, before the Renegades host the return fixture on 16 January.
The first Sydney Smash is at ENGIE Stadium on 19 December. Sydney Sixers host the second meeting against Sydney Thunder at the SCG on 15 January.
When does the BBL|16 regular season end?
The BBL 2026-27 regular season ends on Sunday, 17 January 2027 with two matches.
Hobart Hurricanes face Sydney Sixers at Ninja Stadium at 1:40 PM AEDT. Brisbane Heat then host Sydney Thunder at the Gabba at 7:15 PM AEDT.
What are the BBL|16 finals dates?
The BBL|16 finals run from 19 to 26 January 2027. The participating teams, venues and start times depend on the final league standings and have not been confirmed.
- Qualifier, 19 January: 1st place versus 2nd place. The winner advances directly to the Final.
- Knockout, 20 January: 3rd place versus 4th place. The losing team is eliminated.
- Challenger, 23 January: Qualifier loser versus Knockout winner. The winner reaches the Final.
- Final, 26 January: Qualifier winner versus Challenger winner.
The Qualifier gives the top two teams two possible routes to the Final. A reserve day is available for the BBL|16 Final if required.
